COLUMBIA — A warmer and wetter than average October set records for both daily high temperature and daily rainfall.

Temperatures went as high as 83 degrees Sunday, Oct. 26, the record high for the month, according to the National Weather Service.

"We're just right at 2 degrees above the average for October," National Weather Service Meteorologist Doug Tilly said.

Since 1889, temperatures for the month of October have averaged out to 57.4 degrees.

Tilly said the month was also soggier than usual after a record-breaking 4.81 inches of rain poured on Oct. 2.

"After that one event, we are a little over 7 inches above normal for the month so far ," Tilly said. "Usually, October is one of our drier months, "

Through the month, 10.18 inches of rain have fallen so far.

November is poised to bring in chiller temperatures. The season's first freeze warning is in effect from 1 to 10 a.m. early Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop below 30 degrees.
