Get out your dancing shoes and prepare your tummies; the Roots ‘N’ Blues ‘N’ BBQ Festival is back. Local food truck Jamaican Jerk Hut is one of the fest’s vendors. The Caribbean connoisseurs, specializing in jerk chicken and Rasta lemonade, have participated in the festival since 2007. “It’s kind of like a melting pot,” says Rex Scott, Jamaican Jerk Hut owner, describing his festival customers. “Our clientele varies from international people to people who’ve never tried it.” The musical stages will showcase a variety as well with acts from Americana to gospel. When attendees aren’t watching The Avett Brothers or John Lennon Songwriting Contest winnerAttic Wolves, they can shop for food, jewelry, sunglasses, shoes and even Harley Davidson merchandise. Festivalgoers can also expect the half-marathon and 10K races to take place as usual, with some new features to the fest. There will be a smoking area for people to flick their cigarette butts. Other additions include art installations and an expanded bike valet. The Roots ‘N’ Blues ‘N’ BBQ Festival hopes to provide more than just entertainment but an opportunity for attendees to experience several aspects of Columbia’s culture.
